Halo2 campaign *NS*.... Part 2
Posted By: thunderhawk555 <ps2_can_burn@cox.net>Date: 11/17/04 9:55 a.m.

To start part 2 of this thread, i'd like to highlight yesterdays topic with a few headscratching quotes, interesting responses and a dash of clarification.

Master Sushi from yesterday:

:they ran out of time on the campaign. The thing which annoys me the most
:is that when I look at old trick movies and stuff for the first Halo, or
:when I muck about on it, it does seem... More fun... Ouch that hurt to
:say... It's just the quick action of shooting Elites then smashing a
:Grunt over the head wioth an AR."

Indeed. simplicity is something I miss. The Ar is not something I miss, but the flow of the game is very different in halo2. I feel sort of a low signal to noise ratio in halo2's weapons. the BR and carbine function virtualy the same. having two guns do the same thing seems unnecessary to me. the SMG and plasma rifle on the other hand are quite different from each other, which i like.

:This is what gets me. "Low review score"? 9.4? SUPERB? Just what in the
:hell is wrong with gamers today to make them see that as "low"? So, a
:game either has to be a perfect 10, or it's crap?”

Lets see.... halo was built from the ground up to work on PC, then was thrown onto the Xbox in the course of 5 months before release. it got a 9.7 on gamespot and 9.9 everywhere else.

Halo2, built from the ground up for the xbox over 3 years, tons of new features, and bungie having a good idea of what the fans liked for gameplay. gamespot gave it a 9.4, lower than its predecessor.(does that seem strange to you?) I do agree with it though.
Only the xbox mags gave it perfect 10's, and mostly all reviews have raved about multiplayer while not really liking the campaign. that was my whole point.

Slothboy:

:I don't think that was his point. He just wanted to know if people liked
:Halo 1 or 2 better.

yes. that is my point. but mostly i was talking about campaign, the multiplayer is much better in halo2.

crazy-tastey-monkey says:

:Considering not 5 years ago we were playing games that dont even amout to
:1/2 the hype of Halo 2 and Doom 3 we should be thankful that games like
:this come out. Shit i still have the Sega Genasis, which is pretty
:cool considering, and the games that are coming out now are 1000% beter
:than some of the older ones.

as I said above, I miss the simplicity in games that is dissappearing now.
Bungie said in the X03 documentary: Its not about Making it complex, its not about tons of weapons or watching lots of cutscenes.

well, I agree with that, but it seems like they didnt stick to it.
and "1000%" better is not a matter of fact. its about what you think is fun. as jason jones said, if a game doesnt entertain us, we stop playing it.

XLNC:

:Just curious, what would you say is worse/missing in Halo2, that
:was better/present in Halo1? I'm not challanging you or anything, I
:just have the same opinion as you thus far.

Like I said above, simplicity. the flow of halo2's gameplay is so much different than halo. imagine the level halo, at the very start with a pistol, plasma weapon and some frag grenades. how would you play through that part?
compare that to halo2. say, any open level with a BR or Carbine and frag grenades. how does that play out?
grenades suck in halo2 is part of it, and Weaker grunts are another part of it.
there are intangibles as well, just play through both and you will feel the difference.

El Bastard said:

:You see, that's the problems with kids today. No original thinking.
:You don't have to submit to anything, nor do you have to read
:someone else's thoughts and make them your own.

he is speaking of my statement in which I said "I have to submit to their evaluation," refering to gamespot's review. I apologize for the poor choice of words, I don't submit to their evaluation, I AGREE with their evaluation.

Ain Soph Aur stated:

:Same thing about the grenades. I really miss the far throws and
:decent blast radius of the grenades in Halo in both MP and SP.

here here. I must say that the change is welcome in MP, no more last second grenade deaths. In the campaign mode however, this becomes quite an annoyance.

Now for the conclusion of this thread.

For me, halo2's multiplayer is better, but the single player is no where near as addictive as halo 1. I have played halo over and over, probably near 100 times. As soon as I finish halo2's campaign, I dont plan to play it again. I simply have no urge to do so.

now if the point is more clear than it was yesterday, flame on.
Nasty/sarcastic replies are welcomed, but not encouraged.
