Fall Foliage write up
Posted By: KPDate: 10/3/04 7:09 p.m.

Alright, I said I would if there weren't already a million of 'em and since Shishka's won't be posted until later and everyone's experience is different I thought I'd just go ahead. Sorry it took so long, mow the lawn and then dinner interrupted me, but here it is:

On Friday afternoon I left to grab the guys at the airport that I had volunteered to pick up. Boxer and CYBRFRK were coming in on the same flight from Cleveland at 5:12 and then Ma1agate was to come in at 6:27 from D.C. Both flights were on time and payment of skittles was received on arrival (it started as a joke but I now have enough skittles to feed a small skittle-dependent army of cats). We headed back to Claude's at about twenty of 7 and stopped to get a drink and some motrin at a 7/11 along the way. We all grabbed a Halo 2 cup and filled them up with either slurpies or big gulps.

We got to Claude's at around 8 o'clock and grabbed a couple slices of leftover pizza and did a minimal amount of setting up to play a few games before we hit the hay that night. Konrad and dizzy showed up at around 10 or so and got in a few games. Fluffy got in later that night on a drive from Ohio. Major credit to his dad for driving all that way. Synthetic had flown in from D.C. too but came in at 9 and decided to take a cab to spare me. His cab ride ended up being a nightmare because the driver was tired and Synthetic didn't have a lot of confidence in his driving ability. Luckily he got there in one piece. We probably played until about 1 that night, not too bad. I slept in the basement on a futon that night, only one there that night. I messed around in Claude's office on the G5 until about 3am. Man that is a cool setup he's got, 3 nice LCDs spanning the corner of a V-shaped desk, every geek's dream. I went to sleep around 3. I was awakened a couple hours later by Miguel and the NYC crew coming in at 5:30 or so. I'll wake up at the slightest sound, so Mig's "Don't wake up KP" upon entry had no chance of not waking me up. I picked up my head to see Mig, Haveblue and Shishka (there might've been more but that's all I could really make out). I got up to say hi and see if they needed help but Mig told me to go back to sleep and I had no problems with that.

I woke up at about 9 the next morning after everyone else was already up. Miguel had been making omelettes I think and there were bagels out on the kitchen counter. I grabbed a bagel and got ready for the upcoming day. Unfortunately nobody cut their eggs in the shape of a marathon symbol a la Cunbelin. People started to trickle in around 10 or 11 and the day really started to go. In the end we had about 3 projector's setup in the basement/garage, 3 TVs in the basement and 3 TVs upstairs. I played in the basement on Miguel's projector with Shishka, Miguel and HB for a while. All the classic gametypes were played: Shotties no shields CTF on Battle Creek, Rockets on prisoner, CTF all vehicles on BG, and a ton more. There were a few crappy ones in the lot, thanks to Konrad, but all in all we had some good games. As usual there were one or two games that went on for ages but at the end we didn't get to see the carnage report. Quite the disappointment but we were able to move on.

After that I played in the garage for a while with nof, Furhman, JYNX and others. Then I moved upstairs where I played with too many people to count. Then we had the prize giveaways. The gametype was melee only on Battle Creek, slayer to 50. There were to be 3 matches (all with different people in them) and the person in seventh got a mini master chief. The person that came closest to 77 by adding up their kills, assists and deaths without going over got one of three prizes: The Mister Chief sketch by Frankie, a Bungie hoody or the Wired magazine with the Bungie article in it. For the competitive people there was an official Xbox Flask that the winner of each of the three matches would square off for. I happened to be closest to 77 in the game that I played in with 69 total. I got the Mister Chief sketch that Frankie made (more on that later :D), Gnome won the Bungie hoody and Furhman took home the Wired magazine. JYNX, (GT)Raccoon and MikeMan fought it out in Damnation in a tense match. JYNX had a cheering section behind him during the whole match which might've given him the advantage when he edged out the other two guys by a kill or two. He won the Microsoft flask that he so boldly declared "his" at the start of the first match. He apparently didn't know that he had about 20 people standing behind him until he turned around to celebrate.

The rest of the night went smoothly, we ordered some pizza which a couple guys from 2070 went to get along with Claude. After we ate we played some more matches and I ended up sitting with the 2070 wired crew (Dan Chosich, Dave Chosich, and Tea Cozy) for most of the remainder of the night. That was a treat, because those guys are all pretty cool and fun to play with. People started to slowly begin leaving around 11 and by 2am most everyone had gone that weren't sleeping over. From about 2:30 to 4 the only people awake were a group of guys talking in the kitchen, Furhman, diz, Konrad, MikeMan, JYNX and myself. We basically shot the shit for a little while sharing anecdotes and listening to JYNX describe his "animated" boss.

I went to sleep around 4 and had to get up at 6:45 to make it out of there by 7:30 with plenty of time to drop off Konrad in the next town over and make it to the airport. At 7:25 malagate (or someone, not sure who) got me up. Claude had slept through his alarm but I got ready as quick as possible and we ended up being set to go a 7:40. Claude came out to say goodbye and apologize for sleeping through his alarm, which was still going off. We dropped Konrad off in Wallingford after a tour of Connecticut's backwoods. We dropped off Boxer at the Continental terminal and then I let Malagate and Synthetic off at the United terminal a bit further down the road. I then drove home, said hello, took a shower and slept for 7 hours. I had a great time and really need to thank everyone involved. Especially Claude for hosting, Shishka for coming out and bringing swag and Frankie for parting ways with his incredible Mister Chief sketch which I've scanned (with my craptacular scanner) and put here to share with the community:
