Halogen – Weekly Update One http://derelictstudios.net/halo/ “Everybody’s doing it.” What a phrase… Normally it’s shunned by society for justifying all sorts of things… This week halogen realized something… First Strike was doing it… Zanzibar team is doing it… Hell, BUNGIE is posting a few! All of the mods are posting weekly updates! So, at the end of June, 2004, we post our first weekly update, something we hope to make the implied weekly update a tradition! Now that that’s over with, on to what we all care about, the progress of the mod. First of all, I need to talk about the process of creating a unit. First, you need concept art. Being based on halo, our mod had many concepts for units already. Most of those models are completed. In any case, the next step is modeling. That’s my job. After the unit is modeled, it is put through an ungodly evil, boring and confusing process called “unwrapping.” It gives me nightmares. After unwrapping, the model is skinned, and then coded for release. This week’s progress was very significant. I finished many models, and our coders continued work. Before this week, we had about a half dozen models coded, and those weren’t even coded to be put in a total conversion mod. The Scorpion and Warthog were both coded, but were for demo purposes only, and spawned from the old war factory. This week, with an army of literal boxes, our coders started work. Also, a difficult thing to do, particles. But our coder has created great plasma gunfire in blue and green.
We also got quite a few units on the skinning block. The Wraith, Harbinger (our name for the Tuning Fork), Covenant Power Plant and Scorpion are all soon to be skinned by Nightblade and Opals. Many models were also created this week. The Shade, Skyhawk, Harbinger, ATV and Human Light Vehicle Factory were all made this week. Next week I’ll have been planning for this update for more than a day, so I’ll have more specific things, and new renders. After all, if we only post one render a day on the site, it will take 90 days to release an image of each model with and without a skin… Also, our genius coder has started work.
