Something about 343GS has been irking me

At the end of Two Betrayals:

CORTANA:
There's a teleportation grid that runs throughout Halo. That's how the monitor moves about so quickly. I learned how to tap into the grid when I was in the control room. Unfortunately, each jump requires a rather consequential expenditure of energy.

MASTER CHIEF:
Uh oh. Something tells me I'm not going to like this.

CORTANA:
But I think I can take the needed energy from your suit. Needless to say, I think we should only try this once.

It's obvious that the Chief's suit has a great deal of energy (i.e. recharging your shields, etc), but only enough to attempt teleportation once. It appears, though, that 343GS has a tremendous amount of energy, in order to "move about (Halo) so quickly".

My question is, how much energy?

It has been debated that 343GS cannot travel via slipspace. If he possessed enough energy, could he do so? (please enlighten me, I'm rather obtuse when it comes to the theory of slipspace travel).

Some may argue that maybe the energy comes from Halo itself, and that 343GS uses this energy to move about. But couldn't Cortana have figured that out, as well as use this knowledge to their advantage? And if they couldn't use it, wouldn't she at least have mentioned that?

Anyway, there seems to be more to this little flying ball than meets the eye. Seeing as he sputters away at the end of Halo, maybe we'll get to know more about him in Halo 2.
