Enkidu Thread Restart.
Posted By: Ape Man <hamiltod@usc.edu>Date: 4/26/04 3:44 a.m.

The Enkidu thread was drifting down pretty far, and it seems important enough a topic to keep near the top, so I'll just throw in my observations:

The first information we're given is "Network fragmented, remapping packet routes." This makes it clear from the very beginning that something is going on in this network...whether the U.N.S.C Lebanon is damaged, or the (presumably) AI giving us all of this information is playing some hell on their network.

Time has been discussed elsewhere; in any event, this all happens BEFORE the events in Halo. Reach is still secure, etc.

Note the FF512:/AI/PROCESS/2.718.282/LOGFILE string in the bottom left-hand corner of the first page. The AI and LOGFILE bits imply two things: that an AI is definitely involved somewhere here, either the sender of the message being displayed or the entity actually displaying it aboard the Lebanon. Most likely the first. LOGFILE is interesting. Perhaps this was a burst transmission of some sort that the Lebanon received, and stored it to the logs? In any case, wherever the message is coming from, it's NOT real-time. This is a log of some prior event being reviewed later.

Second page: 820.11g a wireless protocol, etc. Not particularly interesting. It's ten days after the first page; does this mean that the date of terminal viewing is 10 days later, or that the date of that the information was produced/received was 10 days later?

"Waking up is hard to do/1. Please allow me to introduce myself" are reminiscent of Durandal's awakening (though called rampancy, rampancy is a sort of awakening...the AI stops doing whatever its assigned function was...in Durandal's case, opening doors...and aspires to higher goals). Sounds like an AI first going rampant/waking up.

Clicking the link yields third/fourth pages. The third page has some interesting bits.

AUX-UPS probably means AUXILLIARY-UNIVERSAL POWER SUPPLY. A univ. power supply is a device for keeping electronic equipment running the event of a power surge/spike/failure. It's got surge suppressors and built-in batteries in case the power goes out completely. AUX-UPS most likely means that the AI/terminal's main power supply has gone out, and that it has reverted to its backup system. This could mean that the Lebanon is under attack and some of its systems are going down. Note that the third page occurs BETWEEN the first and second pages. Access is from a different place: Cyrobay B as opposed to Network Core A. The Logfile is the SAME file however; the same thing is being accessed, and the PUBKEY...presumably an access code...is the same. ("Cedar". Other people have made the Cedars of Lebanon connections, and I give all credit to them)

One interesting thing is that the 3rd and 4th pages are the same date...differing in time by 4 seconds. The 4th page is clearly being displayed after a login on the 3rd page. The 1st and second pages, however, have a time different of TEN DAYS. That's a bit long to sit around staring at a login screen. What's going on here?

The 4th page has most of the meat.

The implications of "Once I was wild..." should be apparent. We don't have enough information to assume anything beyond that whoever is writing this message was free at some point in the past and now enslaved or made to fulfill some purpose.

"I was seduced into urbanity before I could discover better." Though I hate to admit it, this sounds a lot like 343 GS. He's got quite a bit of urbanity in him; though he's a bit insane, he still introduces himself, and almost never raises his voice to you. What a nice little child.

The next segment is basically saying, "I am older than human history." He gives a lot of examples, some of which are clear, some of which are shady. Keep in mind through this whole segment: What did 343 Guilty Spark get just before you blew up Halo? A record of all of human history. This little rant fits PERFECTLY with his acquisition of that information. I'm not saying that it IS Guilty Spark...in many ways, I hope it's not...but there's certainly a lot of evidence piling up in that direction.

If the above speculation is true, then "Leonidas" is of particular note. Leonidas was a Spartan king who led his force of 300 royal guard hoplites to assist 5,000 Thebans defend Greece from Persian inversion. King of the Spartans...now whom has 343 GS met who could be called king of the Spartans? I wonder...

The inclusion of "Leonidas" could be a personal jab at the Master Chief.

More 343 GS hints: the ( ( I ) ). It does look a little like him. It could also, of course, be an "I" in parantheses..."I" meaning me, the first person. This would be an appropriate symbology; the last eight lines have been about what "I" know and am.

The phrase "I set off an outburst..." is pretty easy to link to the activation of the Halo system. "Why would you hesistate to do what you have already done?" "The last time you asked me...", etc. The Halo network has been fired before; this could very certainly be a reference to that.

Another sentence, very interesting: "I roamed the forests as I wished after Enlil starved the gods." STARVED the gods? What does Halo do? It STARVES the Flood. Maybe we got it wrong this whole time...maybe the Flood have been the source of all the "gods" references here and in the Cortana Letters. Or maybe this is more evidence that the Flood and the Forerunner, typically assumed to be the "gods", are either the same, similar, or bound in some way. In any case, this could be seen as another 343 GS hint: Once the Flood/Forerunner/Gods are starved, Halo's surface is empty of them (they're kept in the installation/installations seen in the level 343 Guilty Spark), and 343 GS is free to wander the forests however he wants.

There's just one problem with all of this perfect-fitting 343 GS stuff.

At the time of all of these terminal accesses/entries, Reach had not yet fallen. It was August 28, 2552 in the latest terminal. The events in Halo took place in September 2552. The Chief had not yet been to Halo, and 343 GS had not gotten access to Cortana's data on human history. He would have no idea who Leonidas is, what our wars were, our mythologies, etc.

So it can't be 343 Guilty Spark.

Then who the hell is it?

Quandries, quandries...
