MLG writeup, sorta...A party......
Posted By: 'NosoleeDate: 2/26/04 9:10 a.m.

Ok, so my cousin, my friend, little brother, and me all went to the MLG nationals...and in short got our asses handed to us, however, we learned a valuable lesson concerning halo multiplayer "players". Player is usually associated the word fun, and fun is not what it looked like some of these people were having.

My cousin overheard a conversation where on guy asked how many hours a day he should play to get really good, the other guys reply: 8 hours, EIGHT HOURS! Hmm...It makes me wonder. I know for a fact that anyone one reading this doesn't play 8 hours a day and has at least some interest in the halo storyline/other aspects of halo except: "red circle, shoot, red circle kill. Money"

Besides the fact that team DM(fourth place) was in our pool, we were able to hold our own in CTF Sidewinder for quite some time, all that practice on COERCE ;). Now sidewinder CTF, to those at the tourney is a sin. They all got flustered and angry when we mentioned CTF Sidewinder. So what did they do, make up new hand-signals and plays to capture our flag. Sick, but understandable. All they wanted to do was play TS hangem, I hate that level now, all I remember from playing in that grey hell is: BOOP BOOP BOOP BEEP! Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not bad, these people are just playing for a profession, I mean, nothing wrong with that, I guess. The only thing that unnerved me was the fact that they probably didn’t know who the Master Chief was, other than the man that runs around on screen. They are probably still wondering what those crazy symbols are in the Covenant base levels such as Damnation and Chill Out.

So back to what happened to us…

The people who we played that hated Sidewinder began to camp. They took a sniper to the back of our bas where the flag is(was). And had him take our heads off as we respawned. 10 second respawn time + four of us + four clips=hell. As revenge, when the computer decided to respawn us outside of the base, we decided to kill the camping bastard, a reasonable vengeance…However once the kid was dead it was time for some 10 second humiliation. About 20 people were behind their screen watching as we swarmed over his body and did a ‘lil corpse humping and gave him a some smacks, all four of us. Those sitting behind him saw this and began to laugh at the poor camper. Someone on the opposite side screamed: “Its like a party over there, I wanna get into that!” My cousin’s response: “Oh, It’s more than a party!” That was the only time I ever saw anyone there, other than us, smile or laugh. Then some biach busted in w/a rocket…

The second to last game we played was Boarding Action where we hid and waited. But when they started racking up the kills, a new strategy was implemented. As we were on the verge of tears with laughter we threw ourselves off the ships into the void of space where we watched the enemy’s futile attempts to snipe our corpses. Haha, wasting ammo.

We encountered several mean, disgruntled, and bitter individuals. One instance was when we were in the middle of a simple free-play game, Blood Gulch CTF to be exact (sooooo much snipe-camping it drove us just to sit in our base). Anyway, this kid comes over and is like:

Kid: “What is wrong with you?!”
All: “What?”
Kid: “Why are you playing this level, no one will ever play this level in the pool play. What is wrong with you?”
Cousin: “Because we want to play it.”
The kid walks away shaking his head and saying, “what a waste of TV space”…

Just another example how the word FUN had been diluted from their minds.

There were a few games with close scores, but we lost and went home. We were neither mentally defeated nor were we sad. Actually, we were quite happy. We at least knew that we could see in the light, one kid asked the Reff to shut off the lights b/c they were burning his eyes…Gollum! Gollum! We were glad to know we saw the real sun, and not the one in Blood Gulch or Sidewinder.

We toured Philly the next day and encountered others who were eliminated from the tourney. They were in high spirits also.

All in all, it was fun. Fourteen hours of Halo never gets boring…for one day but for 2 years, I may very well go insane.

I just downloaded XBC so I’ll be playing more often and hopefully be ready for next year. Just remember folks, Bungie created a game, that is FUN, that we all love and enjoy to explore. I am comforted to know that some of you care to know who the Forerunner really are or why the Covenant want to kill us…

Fall of Fate Part 14 coming soon, for any of you who remember it, lol.
