In Response To: Veteran Bungie fans' view of newer fans... (Poocho) : This brings us a question I've been wondering for a while... : How do all you long-time Bungie fan--from the days of Myth, Marathon, and all
: I'm not trying to be derogatory to us (as I would in effect be dissing myself
: Now, if you guys only consider us only as "Halo fans" (which would
Speaking personally, sometimes yes, it feels like I'm watching children. However, just because you're young doesn't mean you're not a member of the coolest family ever. I don't think those that are just "Halo fans" are necessarily "Bungie fans." There's a lot to understand behind the Bungie Way that takes more than just a love of one game. A small fraction of the Halo fans recognize what exactly is Bungie about Halo. Those are the ones who grew up playing Marathon, Myth, Oni, Pathways... The ones who have essentially grown up with the Bungie Way. To put it simply, what I see when I play Halo is probably much different than what the Bungie neophytes see. The more hardcore amongst us, Mig or Claude, probably see even deeper into it than I do. Personally, I love to see the exposure Halo has given Bungie. But Halo does not truly begin that legacy, and most people don't understand that. Those who know of Marathon but haven't played it might realize it, but there's no way you can understand the depth of the Bungieverse without having played their three most intricate games. Reading the story page gives you a look into what spawned Halo, but you don't get the true atmosphere without having played yourself. So, I want to change that. I want to expose the Halo-loving mass to the Marathon trilogy. I think I have a means to do it, but that's for another time. For now, I shall continue to tell people about Aleph One, m1a1, and the Mac Action sack. Finally, I think I speak on the behalf of all Bungie veterens when I say that I want the new faces to stay, and learn the Bungie Way. Part of teaching the Bungie Way is giving people a mystery whose purpose is mysterious, and its clues seemingly invisible. =) Okay, I've waxed nostalgic enough. To put it succinctly, you move from "Halo Fan" to "Bungie Fan" when you learn and follow the Bungie Way. ;) -S |
