Turns out I hadn't looked carefully enough; the HUGE import was the 3 billion record results table (which I could have just deleted before import). Would have sped things up TREMENDOUSLY.

(The way this thing is built, each result entry links a post to a search query. If there is no matching search query, it just runs it directly. So when things start to bog down, you can just empty the search and results tables and you're good to go. Each search needs to be run again - but the wait is suffered by the first searcher, not the community as a whole.)
