In Response To: Re: A Beautiful Place (thebusstop88)

: That's true, Reddit and etc. have taken over as a hub, where it used to be
: disconnected forums. The disconnected forums seemed to be a better way, as
: the recent shutting down of r/halo seems to attest to. I'm not so sure
: that these types of places are dead, although I am an old-timer like you:
: the "toxicity" that centralized hubs create is becoming far too
: much of a burden for people these days. The internet has always been
: pretty chaotic, but now put thousands of people in a room with nothing in
: common (like Reddit), and you'll see not only misunderstanding, but real
: hurt.

While I can't pinpoint where or why toxicity has grown, I have been on another internet forum for a long time and watched a major cultural shift towards something like mutually inflicting pain. There's no doubt in my mind that all sorts of toxic and unwanted behavior arose on disconnected forums before Reddit took over; Reddit has merely inherited and magnified a problem from elsewhere to an enormous degree.

: That's not really the case here on HBO. Not to say there isn't any hurt, but
: disconnected forums are more insulated from that type of chaos. The main
: problem I'd say is the younger generation doesn't really think there is
: another way: you have to seek places like this out, where places like
: Reddit are placed in front of you by others.

I guess it's because places like this have - or at least used to have - an older guard that could help set things straight and keep a friendly culture intact. Reddit and most of the web 2.0 sites tend to be much higher in search rankings, and kids who aren't familiar with older websites or their culture have no reason to seek them out if they aren't aware of them. It doesn't help that so many older sites are now defunct.

On a good note, I see that Narcogen's rampancy.net site is still up, but the forums seem to be gone for good.

: A relic from a simpler age, and I'm glad to have been a part of it, and to BE
: a part of it, hopefully. Thanks, all, for your work!

So Say We All!

I hope ol' Stuntmutt turns up and gives us a OneOneSe7en filled with groan-worthy puns in honor of Halo Infinite.
