The graphics are definitely a bit rough around the edges (I'm hopeful the shield restore visual effect goes away, because it's the sole blemish on a HUD that I really like) but the moment-to-moment gameplay looks fun, and the grapple hook looks like it'll be goofy sandbox fun if nothing else.
Thus far the "open world" stuff doesn't seem like it's "The Witcher/BOTW but Halo" and more like "what if we made the 'Halo' level even bigger" which I think is promising. You don't need 40 hours chasing icons on a map to make Halo's gameplay engaging.
The villain seems interesting, in that his classic villain monologue is... mostly about looking for a purpose and finding it in Chief? It'll be interesting to see what the Banished's plans are, what the Harbinger is, and how the Created threat fits in to what they're doing here. Right now, the "spiritual reboot" angle seems successful; whether you're new or a longtime fan, the stakes seem easy to grok but the context will have to get teased out.
