The idea seems to be to put a "regular Joe" next to the Chief. I agree if he just whines about home constantly, it'll be grating (really he should have known when he woke up Chief this was gonna' happen, no buyer's remorse) but I doubt that's going to be a static relationship and dynamic throughout.
