: years, they'd wipe away Humanity and give the Mantle to the Grunts. Again,
: not for any moral reason we'd recognize. Just to see what would happen.

Yeah, that's kind of why I hope outside of the Flood the Precursors never return. They're kind of this incomprehensible, inscrutable cosmic horror part of the universe that I really don't think would work well translated to the games, let alone visual mediums. Filling in the gaps with the Forerunners was rather necessary, and came with thematic richness, but I'm not sure the same would be said for the Precursors.
