A lot of running would be needed for sure, and Halo has that jump designed for a hog of course. But as far as AOTCR goes, tackling it on foot is actually how I like to play it. I can't remember when I last played it with a hog. Must be years ago.

In regard to that hog jump, evidently trickers found how to get across or up without a hog, in view of the vids I'm seeing where folk have returned later to get up the first tower. Do you happen to know when that exploit was made known, or by whom? If you have any handy link, that would be even better.
