: completed. Boy, was that a disaster. I was a complete newb at Halo 3, and
: at least three quarters of the checkpoint resets were my fault. Like that
: one time when we finally killed all the enemies around the base of the
: Control Room, and someone was busy making a plan to get to the top without
: dying while I hunted for a better weapon.

: Joe: "At the count of three, we storm the tower. Ready?"

: Me, having fallen into one of the crevisses: "Sorry, guys."

: *Checkpoint reset*

: But after that, we got better. We cleaned house, killed 343 Guilty Spark,
: started the countdown, and fought our way to the Warthogs like the
: unstoppable killing machines we were.

: Then somebody remembered that we were supposed to escape on Ghosts.

: *Checkpoint reset*

: The race to the Forward Unto Dawn was the hardest thing we did. Again and
: again, we kept dying. Or we got delayed long enough for an explosion to
: take us out. Or I'd plow straight into a Carrier form, which ought to
: count as suicide.

: *Checkpoint reset*

: I remember the palpable sense of relief we all felt when we got to one of the
: platforms and discovered that, yes, there is a checkpoint there. And so we
: set out for the next platform, discovering a safe path through sheer trial
: and error. The level isn't that hard when you do it alone, or without the
: Iron skull on, but four players in four Ghosts means four chances for
: failure.

: And at long last, the Forward Unto Dawn was in sight. Perhaps this made us
: careless, because we all raced for it in single file, heedless of the
: danger all around us. Somebody took a ramp, followed by you, followed by
: me. But since neither of us was going fast enough to jump the gap, you
: followed that bold nameless player into the great beyond. But not me. I
: took the ramp at a slightly different angle, different enough that my
: Ghost could just barely catch the edge of the landscape and heave itself
: to safety. I was relieved. Vindicated. Finally, for once I was not the one
: who would drag us back to the last checkpoint.

: And then I was flattened by a piece of debris, like a fly and a flyswatter.
