Doesn't seem like 343/MS have much interest in shutting down fan projects as long as they're clear they're fan projects and they're not imminently going to compete with a Halo title (then again, it's been a while since they shut down the Halo RTS mod before Halo Wars was announced, so maybe even that doesn't hold.) Stuff like Sins of the Prophets have been around a really long time.

This is probably the most ambitious project I've seen in a while just because it's not a mod or conversion of an existing game.
