Last year, the World Science Fiction Convention was held at Spokane, practically in my backyard. I bought tickets and forgot to check the guest list, for if I had, I would have realized that Larry Niven and Greg Bear were attending. Alas, I was unaware until my pit stop in Ritzville, and books by both of those authors were left at home.

This year, I came prepared:
