So you think women who read romance novels actually meet and are seduced my secret billionaires while traveling across Europe? Pshaw. Generally, I think for most people escapist fantasies are ESCAPIST fantasies, meaning the difference from the real is recognized and part of the appeal.
I am of two minds about this--there are certain values that I would prefer not be reflected in the media we consume. It's not that I think that no media can be harmful, it's just that inevitably people are quick to identify the value that they don't want other people to have to be the harmful one--and the one that is likely to become "very real"--the one that is illegitimate. They often have a view of what "enlightenment" looks like, and anyone who doesn't agree with that view 100 percent is part of the problem.
