In general, you are spot on. Also, the gold in the Covenant military schema typically denotes a command rank of some sort, so you could have a gold Ranger armor who was a commanding Elite. Also, not all gold Combat Harness-wearing Elites were "Supreme" Commanders. And as you said, the Zealots weren't specifically tied to being gold, but by very nature of reaching a high rank within the Covenant military, quite often those Elites adorned in gold armor of some sort WERE zealots.
