: I'm primarily a PC user when it comes to RTS games too, but Halo Wars has a
: certain feeling that I got with the Halo shooters compared to its PC
: contemporaries. They're simple, intuitive, and accessible. In a series
: like Wargame, my own bread and butter, I'll take quite a bit of time just
: to get a sense of what's going on and that's before the long, drawn-out
: skirmishes and battles that are initiated. You don't have to have that
: with Halo Wars and it's better for it.

Halo is ripe material for an expansive, simulationist RTS with all the bells and whistles. Something like a Company of Heroes, except CoH's gameplay would be radically changed by the introduction of aircraft and the removal of anti-tank guns.

Halo Wars is simple to a fault. The gameplay feels like a sort of off-brand Command and Conquer, and there's nothing about it that really sticks to you. The mechanics feel shallow, and the worst thing is, some of those mechanics feel more like filler than something that's fun to play.

The best parts of Halo Wars was the art. If future Halo RTSs were to abandon Halo Wars's gameplay in favor of something more radical, I wouldn't shed a tear.
