: What if they (or others) want to use their clips elsewhere?
: That doesn't seem to be something "for the community" if you're
: basically making money of off other people's content in exchange for
: "exposure". They warn people about those scams in real life...
---------------------------
You have a terrible habit of calling things scams. Do try to get details before making such accusations. Simply ask next time.
1) These videos are for those that want to take part. There is no obligation, and all participants will be credited and linked to.
2) The monetization is strictly to help pay for the time and labor it takes to edit and put the video together. As well as pay for any future narration or needed hardware/software, to keep the series going. The payout will not be much at all. YouTube only pays out, about, 1/3 cents to 1 cent per view. That comes to, around, $1 for every hundred views. IF the payout ever reaches a high number, then it will be split among the participants, respectfully.
3) The new watermark will be embedded into the video. It is strictly to prevent others from downloading the completed videos and re-upload them without permission from the participants, and claiming them as their own.
4) I never stated that the volunteers/submitters could not use their clips on their channel or elsewhere. It'd be foolish to put that limitation. I don't own their clips. They can do with them as they wish.
This is not the first time this kind of service has been provided. And it certainly will not be the last. Turn off your ad blocker (if you use one), and visit YouTube. You'll notice that it's a common practice. For example: Rooster Teeth's "Fails Of The Week" (Episode 100) has 1,545,387 views. I happen to have a clip in that video. They never linked to me, but they did give me footage credit. It's been over three years and I've not received one cent from the revenue that clip has produced. Do I care? Nope. I volunteered my footage for the series and gave up any revenue from the video, when I did. I knew they would make money from it and I wouldn't. It's a choice I made, as has thousands of others.
Submitting to my new series is a choice. Just as it is to submit to Rooster Teeth, HaloFollower, Halo Vanguards, ForgeHub, Etc. Sadly, it takes money and time to make videos. I'm simply being a little different with this series. I'm including links, usernames, credits, etc. And, if all goes well, payment. I understand the worry. But no, this is not a scam.
