In Response To: They could always try diplomacy (RC Master)

: How about "What were the goals with Locke's character in Halo 5?" -
: "Why those?" "Well that's interesting" "I think
: Halo 5 does/does not meet those goals for these reasons"
: "Doesn't this goal conflict with this other goal we have - how can we
: resolve that?"

: With the Forerunner weapons, I know at least one of the reasons for the
: design this way was so that they would actually be used. So that players
: would pick them up, fire them a couple of times and immediately realise
: what they do, what they're useful for and keep them.

: To their credit, they achieved that.

I wouldn't really go that far.. I don't know why I would use a light rifle over another weapon in campaign other than it does more damage, I don't know why I would use a boltshot unless my suppressor is out of ammo, and I don't know why I would use the incineration cannon unless I don't have other explosive weaponry.

There is also a communication problem, as we know human weapons are good against health, covenant weapons are good against shielding, so what are forerunner weapons for....? Breaking promethian armor and killing them? Then what would I want to use the other 2 factions weapons for? Despite the knights being an improvement in this game, their lack of shielding makes the plasma pistol useless against them, as it is against the soldiers.

Since H5 came out I've been messing with my own version of the Forerunner sandbox on the PC, trying to find a happy medium for fit the forerunner weapons in. I've found that having a unique ammo system for them helps, as well as rewarding the player with clear feedback (your weapons can ignite enemies on fire or create burning damage against flesh) so they realize that Forerunner weapons are also amazing vs health, super weak vs shielding, and have properties that make them play unlike other weapons they've used previously.

Hopefully 343 will try and continue to improve the weaponry, but to me it seems like they want uncomplicated combat with an emphasis on spartan abilities to make players play "smarter" rather than having a smarter weapon sandbox, all while speeding up the gameplay with fast killtimes to draw in the COD crowd.
