It certainly seems like it got reduced because of the pro crowd. But I also wonder if it's about balancing sprint (or making it useful as an offensive option). It's easier to catch someone off guard by sprinting in those last 20 meters because they don't have time to react. It makes for a frustrating death but a satisfying kill.
