You're scratching the surface of something I'm feeling. It's not JUST an issue of nothing happening, but it does explain WHY a lot of people are losing interest in the story. I'm working on a writeup. It's actually something deeper and more subtle, and I'm not sure I've seen anybody really describe it yet.
