Bought some Bronze initially until I realized that I was only getting War Zone items, no permanents.

So now I buy only Silver to unlock armor. Never bought a Gold.

I buy the pack, sell everything, check out my armor/weapon/skin unlocks, then use the points to buy another. I don't mind War Zone with the basic gear, so until I unlock my EVA helmet, everything else gets trashed.

Once I get the helmet, I'll probably save the War Zone stuff and play it more.

Sucks you don't get any REQ points from completing Campaign Missions or Custom Games like in Reach. Even if it was just a small amount, it would mean not playing Matchmaking constantly... :P
