Yep. Going Bronze for a bit to get SAWs, Needlers, Warthogs and other weapons is probably a good idea.

I've gotten a bunch of all three tiers (bronzes are fairly easy to get, and if you sell most of the duplicates you can basically pay for another bronze pack easily without any more games.)

Once I've gotten most of the low-hanging fruit I'll probably switch back to Gold packs for the cosmetic items.
