Where is this POV you speak of coming from?
On the back of the case for Halo CE it says "You are the last of your kind". Might say it again in the manual. That's the only statement referring to this subject that I am aware of - are there any mentions of being the last Spartan II in any of the 4 main games? Just because other Spartan IIs aren't mentioned doesn't mean they aren't out there. They were busy with their own missions. Their existence was not pertinent to the stories at hand.
I do agree that some additional in-game exposition about the Master Chief reuniting with Blue Team would be nice. Maybe, maybe it will be covered in the prelude cinematic - if there is one at all.
