: Kal's OP is dead-on. Telling a narrative is just as important as building it.
And not all narratives require every piece of information spelled out for you. I am aware I'm in a minority in that I didn't need a stated motivation from the Didact to understand that he was holding many beeves he needed to express. And in the same regard, I don't think I need an encyclopedia-blue-team to understand that the characters are important to John and that the information necessary to the narrative of the game will be presented within the game.
Some people will consider it to be insufficient or a poor narrative if they don't think things are fully explained, but, to be honest, most stories don't require you to know everything and are better for you not knowing everything.
