Yeah from the camera's angle it seems odd. In my head, I'm imagining the elite just on the edge of a successful swipe, but just as he committed his feet started to slip, which threw off his focus and aim, causing the swipe to be just barely off the mark. And of course the SIIs wouldn't flinch if they know there's no harm.

Kind of like a basketball player going for a free throw, and someone taps him on the shoulder just as he's about to throw; just a little twich at just the right time and it's no longer in the basket.

Not that swiping a sword is anything like the concentration of lobbing a baskball into a hole... or that elites can even play basketball.
