Which reminds me of something. The book still didn't explain why the IIIs haven't been given Mjolnir armor yet. It's supposed to be a lot cheaper after the war seeing as they're able to give one to every Spartan IV out there, yet the IIIs still aren't getting any of it. Even though it would double their effectiveness and survivability.

I mean, the SPI armor is cool looking and iconic to the IIIs, but in the post-war setting there's no real justification to have Spartans wearing it anymore. They should be able to give MJOLNIR to everyone who can wear it while the SPI would be shuffled to ODSTs and other non-augmented special forces.

I half-jokingly theorized earlier that ONI just wants the IIIs to promptly die away because their age and the Gammas' augmentations will raise too many inconvenient questions, but now I'm starting to think this is really the case. The IIIs just can't catch a break. Always trying their hardest and they still get the short end of the stick.
