In Response To: I'm not buying Halo 5. (car15)

: Know why? Because MCC is still an unsupported buggy piece of shit.

At this point, they've done far more than I would have credited them with bothering with. Is it buggy? Yes. Unplayable? Depends on what you're doing.
Wanted the MCC for campaigns and co-op? They mostly work, and though Halo 2 didn't age well at all, they went ahead and updated the graphics, slightly improving one of the most glaring weaknesses of the worst Halo game.
If you wanted it for multiplayer, maybe that's broken (no idea, I've played less than five matches since I got it), but you can always play that on last gen. Was that really your biggest draw?
Custom games? They work, sort of, for the most part. Enough to have lots of fun (unless you plan to play really long matches). Sure, the lack of drop-in gameplay is a massive downside, but that's the price you pay.

: I said it back in November. If Microsoft won't do what it takes to fix their
: shit, then I won't buy Halo 5. They haven't done so, so I'm walking. Damn
: shame too - Halo 5 looks amazing - but I refuse to support this bullshit
: any more.

I'm sure your threats kept countless Microsoft execs up at night, but still somehow didn't trouble them enough to expend more resources to fix the product since they already got your money (and generous pre-launch reviews).

: Don't get me wrong. I know exactly why MCC isn't fixed yet. It's actually
: very simple; fixing the game at this point isn't profitable for Microsoft.

Correct. They got your money. They were able to sweep the negativity under the rug, and we're able to use the Halo 5 beta to draw eyes towards the hype train. Why would they go back and continue to work on MCC if it was no longer pulling bad press?

: But you know what? I DON'T CARE.

Now you and MS have something in common.

: Fuck your profits, Microsoft. This is about building goodwill with your
: customers. You fucked up, and you have a duty to the people who paid $60
: of their hard-earned money for your bug-ridden piece of shit compilation
: to clean it up and get it working. Don't want to do it? Then fuck you. I'm
: done with Halo.

Funny thing is that while I mostly feel the same way towards Microsoft, I'm still enjoying enough of their products to deal with their garbage (I do still buy EA games regularly too, as do countless others). I guess it all comes down to expectation. Does what I get out of the product justify the money and shortcomings? If the answer is yes, then I don't go out of my way to take things personally. The Xbox One is a garbage console, but I only paid $175 for it, so I live with the fact that it's not half the console that the PS4 is. The MCC was garbage at launch, but I got it for free, and have had a blast playing it (and the $5 ODST) during TexSD customs. I'd have gladly bought it on sale just for that. You paid $60? That's entirely your fault, and you can't place the blame on Microsoft if you didn't return the broken game when you had the chance.

: Bite the bullet and fix your shit. This is absolutely pathetic.

I dunno, man. You're the one throwing a temper tantrum in an open letter that nobody at Microsoft will ever read. Act like an adult and accept that only you screwed up buy buying and keeping a broken game. Do you think Microsoft would have just given up on it like they did if everyone returned it until it was fixed? Would they have just given up if the preorders for Halo 5 didn't give them relief?
It's ultimately the consumer's fault that games like this remain broken. Accept responsibility, and don't buy Halo 5 if you don't trust the company, but don't think that they care for one second, and don't think that they will change their ways just because one tiny, insignificant drop in their revenue decided to spend their money on a different game that they're still getting money for. They're getting paid either way.

That's why I don't buy the whole "vote with your wallet" garbage. Odds are, you'll still buy a different product that still sends your money to the same company. The only way to truly stick it to Microsoft would be to sell your Xbone and buy a Mac or something.
But you won't do that, will you?
