Scopes ahoy (a digression)
I know there was already discussion about it, but that character with all the scopes... what the actual fuck. Along with that, I notice that now that the Chief's armor has been drastically altered (in Halo 4) to 343i's liking, it seems to have settled down and is almost unchanged in these previews. Even though better graphics is a much better excuse than it was for Halo 4, and even though they showed him taking that armor off and it seems dumb to not outfit him with new, better armor, it's the same-- but hey, maybe there's some story reason and he canonically has the same exact armor. I just would really like to know where this consistency was during the production of Halo 4. All the armor continues to be riddled with lines too, messing with the silhouettes. I just hope this time the HUD isn't full of pointless, obstructive lines too.
If you asked me a few years ago about a developer running designs by their community for approval before finalizing them, I would've said something like, "That's dumb," or "That goes against creativity and freedom," or "That would probably make things appeal to the lowest common denominator instead if striking out into new territory," or "A developer doesn't owe their community anything except whatever they paid for and maybe some gratitude."
I still pretty much would say all of that, but after a few iterations of 343i's Halo... let's say I'm open to the idea. It's like they're 4 years old and we can't leave them alone in a room with an Autodesk product for 5 minutes without them making a mess.
If we had seen this around the time of the beta, they could've fixed it, but now it's probably too late-- I mean, I think they could really improve it if they really wanted to, but they're probably too emotionally and financially invested in the four-scope design now, so they'd say it's too late.
I will say they're getting better, but the more closely I look, the more I question just how much is a lateral move to rather than improvement.
