It was already canon. The thing is, it does fit with the story in regards to the use of clones. While Kilo-5 treated them as if they had been unnecessary, I think it's clever that they use it to remark that yes, the clones did have a use.

Besides, to be fair it's admirable the canon references this radio drama has taken from everywhere.
