In the last 360 update, you can now use any FAT32 formatted drive in the 360, up to 2TB in size.
Notably this also makes the 360 save it's files (profiles, map variants, gametypes, etc) as plain individual files on the drive, instead of inside a monolithic container file. The files can also live alongside other non-360 files on the drive.
This also means no external software is now needed to distribute Forge variants and gametypes via the internet, forever. This is the start of a project to take advantage of all of this. It was technically possible to do this before.. but now it's EXTREMELY easy. Like, all you have to do is download a zip file, extract it to a thumb drive, plug it into the 360 and you're done.
The only catch to this is the drive can't be used as the boot drive for your 360. If you want to be able to use your thumb drive as the boot drive for the 360, it's still limited to 32GB and still keeps everything in a container.
