My "recommended reading".

In Response To: Back into the Halo world (J)

: I haven't really followed much of what's been going on in the Halo world for
: quite some time, but I used to be huge into it, books and all. I was
: wondering if there was a source you could suggest for me to go to to catch
: up. The last book that I read was Ghosts of Onyx, and I planned on reading
: the first few again to catch up and continue that, but from what I
: remember hearing, there were a ton of comics, a ton more books, and movies
: that came out. Of those, which ones are actually worth watching/reading?
: Is there a good source that can sum up a lot of this stuff so I can
: realistically catch up before 5 comes out? I've found a few, but none are
: really that comprehensive.

: J

Kilo-5 Trilogy
Finishes the plot threads started in Ghosts of Onyx and moves all pieces and characters in preparation for Halo 4.

New Blood
This is essentially a direct sequel to Halo 3: ODST in short novel form, and helps to set in more concrete terms the current state of the Halo universe.

Halo Legends: Origins I & II
A good recap of everything that was learned during the course of the Halo Trilogy before diving into the next chapter for Halo.

Forerunner Trilogy
Finishes off all (most?) of the plot threads established during the Halo Trilogy and sets up the backstory for Halo 4 (backstory that you'll be pretty lost without). The last book in the series, Silentium, is one of the best Halo novels released, in my opinion.

Halo 4 Terminals
A more streamlined way of getting the necessary story to understand the villain of Halo 4 without reading all the ancillary Forerunner stuff.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn
Introduces Lasky, shows Cortana’s decaying state, and directly sets up Halo 4.

Halo 4 and Spartan Ops
New universe is set and moving. Spartan Ops directly continues Halsey's character from original Halo books and the Kilo-5 Trilogy.

Halo: Escalation
This continues the story in the same vein as Spartan Ops, but as a comic series. I can't reasonably recommend this due to the price of purchasing all the issues, and how slowly things actually move forward, but this does continue a lot of the threads started elsewhere. Since it's ongoing, who knows if it will go anywhere that has an impact on the larger universe.

Hunt the Truth
You said this is what got you back into Halo, but I'm just putting it on here to be safe. The audio logs for this marketing campaign are just fantastic, really do a good job of showing what civilian life is like post-Halo 3.

Halo: Nightfall
Do not watch this.
