Agreed, this was the best update I've read in the longest time... but I think I share gravemind's gripe about the H4 Jackals. The handwaving is not enough to explain that. Really they should have just called them an entirely new race and said that the Covenant started using a similar alien species that was less prone to have pirate-like tendencies and work with whoever was stuffing their coffers more.
