: Have to admit I'm surprised however - it's not as if the graphics engine on
: H2A is even going to be cutting edge... in all honesty though - can people
: tell the difference between 900p and 1080p? I'm not sure many can (and
: even if they could - the difference is surely going to be fairly
: negligible...)
In terms of the raw clarity or other issues from the rendering resolution?
In terms of raw clarity at the output, the difference is going to drop off pretty quickly with viewing distance; if you're the sort of person who sits 10 feet from a 32" display, the difference in clarity will be rather subtle. Some people sitting closer might notice; if you're 5 feet from a 50" display, it's likely going to be visible.
But other issues like aliasing are another matter. The 44% increase in pixels from 900p to 1080p is likely going to have a visible impact on jaggies and shimmering and such, particularly on very thin details. And this is something which, for worst cases, may be noticeable at any reasonable viewing distance; if I stand 50' from my 37" TV, I can still easily notice the specular aliasing in some seventh-gen games, even though the game is nigh-unplayable at that distance. Texture filtering also needs to be higher to get good results.
It will to some degree depend on how the game is being rendered; heavily multisampled content with well-filtered BRDFs and high-order AF sometimes won't have many issues at 900p versus 1080p outside of the raw clarity.
At the end of the day? Probably not a huge deal, but 1080p rendering tends to be a visible improvement over 900p.
