I found it a lot of fun on XB360. A lot of the hate probably comes from its mobile roots--it has a bunch of shorter missions rather than long ones and optional microtransactions (and if there's one way to piss off the PC master race it's mention microtransactions.)

I bought it at $15 and haven't regretted it, you'll prolly be fine at $3.
