The trouble isn't with the controller, I'd say it's primarily with the lower shot speed and accuracy of the plasma weapons, which especially makes moving enemies harder to hit, except when close and coming straight towards you. It really exercises your judgement in a way that the pistol doesn't. Plus there's the overheating to manage, and the shorter convenient range (so enemies are likely to get closer).

Anyway, have you experienced this far area defence yourself yet? It's some of the best combat you could ever have.
