Question about painting figurines

It's a long story, but I have a question about painting the McFarlane Halo figurines, specifically this one:

I need to change her armor color to purple. The paint doesn't need to be perfect, but I want it to look pretty decent. My first inclination is to go find some metallic purple model paint, but I wanted to ask here first to see if anyone had some Super Good Advice before I get started.
