What is the "X" for? Video Game... eXperience?

I don't get this. VGA was logical and straight forward, and easily pluralized: "Hey, are you going to watch the VGAs?"

I can't imagine hearing "Are you going to watch the VGXes?" ... VGXii? Vegexen? Seems odd to me. Especially odd that neither the official site or their press release define what VGX stands for (unless I just missed it when I skimmed them).
