Halo and Cloud Gaming Question

I was reading a bit on XboxOne and the cloud based gaming today (super excited about it honestly), and ran across this article on ZDNet saying Microsoft had been running computer-based cloud gaming for Halo for a whole year. This article was written in January of this year. Now does this mean Halo 4 has had much to do with cloud-based computing, or they've been running Halo5/XBO/One tests for more than year already? I'm confused and looking for clarity from either smarter people, or people with more time?
