Isn't that like saying that removing a cylinder from an engine won't decrease the power output of the engine? Even ignoring balance/functionality issues, it totally will. Legs are used to accelerate more than just themselves, and a missing leg is no longer pushing on the non-locomotional bits of the machine when you're trying to get up to speed.
