If the SC franchise is foreign to you, then you probably haven't paid attention to Blacklist. With Blacklist, there are three ways to play almost every mission: Ghost (complete without being detected, and only knocking people out), Panther (complete undetected and with silently killing people), and Assault (can be detected and such). Check out this 3min video for more details: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqVvFJty-QM
Anyway, I played through the game on "Realistic" (Heroic), completing each mission on at least Ghost, along with getting the checkbox for "Undetected" and "Don't Kill Anyone" on almost every single one. I also did this for most of the "4th Echelon" missions, which are kind of like SPOPs (SP or co-op). Then there are all the challenges (eg, get X kills with Y weapon), which I forget if they're called something different in H4.
As you play the game, you earn fake cash which you use to purchase equipment and upgrades (eg, silencers for weapons). They have a loadout system like H4, but it isn't shared b/w campaign and MP. In MP, you get tokens (starting at rank 5 or so). Along with a cash value, MP loadout equipment costs a single token.
So, imagine beating the campaign and SPOPs almost to completion (all objectives and checkboxes checked) on at least Heroic, then starting MP and getting to at least level 7 (well, XP doesn't come as easily as H4 I think). Pretend the 40hrs I spent doing this in Blacklist is the same amount of work it would take H4.
Now, imagine booting up and finding that not only has uplay's cloud sync silently failed (save can be local, but also copied to the cloud) but also -all- work that you've done, progress (not just your checkpoint of the last SP mission you were in), challenges, etc is gone. Including leaderboards AFAICT. I was speechless when I realized that -everything- was tracked via the local game save.
It was like wasting 40hrs of my life
