Agreed. Also, are we getting into "No True Scotsman" territory here? The Xbox One will sell between 50 and 100 million units during its lifetime. More than half of American households own at least one console. Does that mean that hardcore gamers make up a solid majority of the population?
I don't think it's a binary thing. I don't think people think of themselves as "real gamers" or not, and that one trait determines whether or not they'll buy a console. Heck, my mother bought a 360 last year because of a range of factors, including its Kinect games, Amazon and Netflix streaming, and a few puzzle titles like Portal. A hardcore gamer she is not, and her purchase was not at all swayed by the latest Gears of Halo: Black Ops commercial.
