You don't have to. I don't see it your way, but that doesn't invalidate any of your points (especially the ones that you have right with the writing). The key issue is that while the novel works as an outside source, the game itself fails to stand on its own. Cortana warping the light bridge to save the Chief? A precedent first set in the novels, yet totally not established in-game and thus a suspension-of-disbelief-destroyer. And that's just one example of the many, many failings of the game's writing within the campaign (I'm using this one because it's possibly the worst case of it, considering they rip you out of everything right at the end of the game when the strong emotional finish is being presented).

Don't get me wrong here! No sarcasm at all, I really like your speculation of it. Personally, I think your theories on this make more sense than 343's presentation while at the same time presenting it in a more coherent fashion that 343 did.

The only problem is, it's still just your theory. I mean yeah, while it's probably going to be very easy for me to come back after H5, H6, H7, whatever and say, "Welp, your theory was wrong" when 343 inevitably proves you wrong (my opinion, but I highly doubt your theory comes to pass considering their writing), what's the point? Maybe you'll remember and just be let down a bit when it comes to not pass.

Oh trust me, I know. I've been having a blast with speculation over at DBO with regards to Destiny. I've even speculated here about Mendicant Bias and that role within H4 (non-existent) or potentially in the future (usually ends up getting all of 4-5 responses, if that, and this applies to when others, like DHalo, post similar speculation. Unfortunate). Unfortunately, 343 isn't just "is or isn't doing" things, they've already done it in H4, it's already out there in all of its terrible writing, and I assume there'll be more to come.

I think it's much more fun to speculate about actual plot points that have yet to play out, you know? Like the Mendicant Bias stuff. There's a treasure trove for 343 to hopefully mine successfully. I could discuss Mendicant Bias all day! :D
