In Response To: StarForge (General Vagueness)

: I saw this on the Steam sale but didn't think anything of it, and then last
: night someone I chat with talked about it and I was intrigued, so when I
: saw it again this morning I looked at it. That's all well and good, but
: why am I posting here, especially without an *OT*? Well it looks like it's
: good and has the potential to be really good, and the developers say
: (right in the description in Steam) that Halo was one of their influences
: (which is visible in how the player characters are covered in what seems
: to be power armor which looks kind of like Mjolnir). Going along with
: that, there are guns... lots of guns... like a Borderlands level of guns
: (another game listed as an influence), and there's multiplayer to use them
: in, along with vehicles to drive. Another claimed influence is Minecraft,
: and that's easy to see from how you build things-- the buildings look like
: they're pretty much right out of Minecraft, but the characters and items
: aren't visibly blocky, and the environment (which is procedurally
: generated) looks like it's only a little blocky if at all. Those of you
: that liked and miss the glitch/oversight/whatever in the Halo 3 beta that
: let you take a Banshee into "space" would probably be interested
: in this, since you can build your way up there (actually doing stuff in
: space isn't fully implemented yet though). There are several other present
: features and tons of features planned. The only unfortunate thing is that
: I won't be buying it any time soon for the same reason I don't have
: Minecraft or Kerbal Space Program or Murder Miners or stuff like that: I
: know it would suck up tons of my time. I just thought you guys might be
: interested.

I've had an eye on Starforge for a while. It looks pretty boss, especially if they're able to pull off the kinds of thing they're talking about. Procedural generation is fabulous, and the more games like this and Minecraft take off, the more development hours will be spent refining it. Infinity: Universe is another game with a similar feeling.
