If you have Win 8, this seems like a no-brainer. I have not finished it yet (had to take a break to let my tablet recharge a bit) but I'm into the 4th chapter and I've been loving every minuet of it.
Things I like so far:
-Has a GREAT mix of Covenant from all games
-Weapons are genuinely fun to use (omg the focus rifle is BEAST) and I find myself switching between them constantly
-Missions are broken up in a manner just like Spartan Ops making them easy to digest
-So far, things feel pretty varied, not repetitive.
-Lots of assets from Halo wars, yet the art style is Halo 3
- IDK why but seeing things like the mega-turrets and Wolverines from Halo Wars and Enemies styled from Halo 3 with Weapons from Halo Reach are mixing very well together
-Worlds and environments are very pretty, and I found myself stopping to look at the background action quite a bit.
-Some of the new skulls and armor abilities are pretty cool and IMO would be great additions to future Halo's
-Piloting vehicles is fun, and they don't handle the same way at all- the ghost is a splattering machine (you'll ready why furhter down) the wraith is a little goofy to steer and the Scorpion pilots and shoots almost exacly like you were piloting one in a game of Halo wars
-Very arcade-y feel to it and for this type of game its a good thing
Things I don't like so far
-Even though I knew going into it, the story is Palmer-centric, HOWEVER, when I'm playing a mission as her I don't even notice that I'm playing as her, so this is kinda a wash I guess?
-Marine dialogue is repetitive
-When you kill a drone they mistakenly used the sounds of an Engineer. It irks me.
-Elites are mean! When your shields pop they chase you down if you run! Wait... maybe that should be in the 'positive' category ;)
-Touching a vehicle is instant death. Just like in Combat Evolved if you so much as walk into a moving vehicle you instantly die. Even friendly vehicles! The start of the first mission where you encounter some Wolverines I turned around to look at one and it started to move and killed me. I died 3 seconds into the mission. D'Oh!
Things of note and "other" :
*The controls are a little trippy at first. It truly does play as a top-down-shooter like Smash TV etc.
*The visuals look GREAT on my tablet and my workstation
*The mouse and keyboard combo is very easy to use to shoot, but I found it difficult to use to move and remember what keys do what. This is mostly due to me not being anything of a PC gamer. Ask me to do more than WASD and I get lost haha
*The touch controls are easy to move with but harder to shoot some guns with. I also find it hard to aim the stationary turrets with. I find that I'm terrible with the shot gun but other guns I feel like a pro such as SMGs and focus rifle.
*I downloaded it to my tablet first, and then went to see if I could download it to my PC- I could, free of charge. I also noticed my game data traveled with me so it syncs, very nice. I did not have to buy the game twice.
Closing
Still playing through it but so far I'm having a blast! Don't buy this game thinking you're getting a AAA title- it is very much a mindless arcade type game but that doesn't mean its bad- its exactly what it advertises itself as. Even if the ending sucks, I feel like I've gotten my $7 of fun out of it already.
I'll try to post more later, and I'll answer any questions I can.
