: If the 5th or 10th person in the chain can wait 6+ months for his turn, he
: gets to play the game for free. If he can't wait that long, he'll go out
: and buy it himself.
Because of two reasons.
1. It's much much faster than giving it to a friend. If you have a shared library, it's basically 10 people owning 1 game. While you could set up a system of each person getting a week to play the game at a time, some people will just be bouncing the game back and forth between people, and the publishers won't be making any money on that sale. And it seems that Micosoft is against used games since they set limits on how many times you can sell a game to someone (1 time). So why make it even easier to share as well as still making it free? It just doesn't make sense. And this leads me into....
2. You don't have much of an incentive to sell it to someone. Why would I pay you 10 bucks to buy your game when you can share it with just me for free. I'm not sure exactly how the family sharing works, but I'm guessing it is an option that you can "Checkmark" on your friends profile. I guarantee that you can add and remove people at will. So why would I sell you the game and then you be stuck with the game for eternity when I can just "mark" you as a family member, have you play the game, and then I get to keep it and do with it what I want.
This whole model just doesn't make snese as a whole, and that is the whole point of this post. Sure, it sounds cool and awesome if it was true, but it doesn't make sense as a whole. Which is why I think the Demo mode was true.
PS I know that they said that the demo mode was a false claim, but at this point, they can say anything about it that they want to. They could make it seem like you could have 100 people play the game at the exact same time if they felt like saying that. Anything for damage control at this point.
