That week saw the debut of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, The Legend of Zelda, and Captain N: The Game Master. Of course, Nintendo was the face of gaming back in the latter half of the 80s, so those shows were required viewing for Nintendo fans. Behold them in their cheesy 80s glory!

Of course, not even they were the first video game-themed TV series. There was a Pac-Man TV series that debuted in 1982, which is to my knowledge the first cartoon based on a video game. It was followed in 1983 by Saturday Supercade which featured shorts based on the likes of Q-Bert, Donkey Kong, and Frogger. Wikipedia has a full list of TV series based off video games.
