That's not really something I would worry about.
I mean, the Playstation and PS2 required memory cards that were not sold as part of the console package. They held quite a small amount of data and where utterly required in order to save anything.
Same with the Dreamcast needing a VMU, and those weren't all that cheap thanks to having a screen.
Even the Sega Saturn had a small amount of on-board memory via a CR2032 memory that could save data for about a dozen or so games before you would have to buy a memory cartridge, which were comparability massive.
